Prepare a focused CV for your next role
A good CV helps a reader quickly understand your experience and its relevance to the role. Keep the document clear, accurate and easy to scan.
Start with the role, then shape your CV
Read the responsibilities and requirements. Identify the experience you can honestly demonstrate. Put the most relevant work near the top instead of adding every task you have ever completed.
Use a simple structure
- Name, professional contact details and location.
- A short summary that connects your experience to the role.
- Work experience in reverse chronological order.
- Education, relevant qualifications and practical skills.
Explain outcomes, not just duties
For each role, describe what you did and the result. Use accurate numbers when you have them. If a result cannot be measured, explain the improvement, responsibility or scope without inventing figures.
Review before sending
- Check dates, contact details and spelling.
- Use a readable font and consistent headings.
- Export a clean PDF when the employer accepts that format.
- Name the file clearly, such as Firstname-Lastname-CV.pdf.
- Only send the personal information needed for the application.
